Jacinta Simpson
Principal 2011
|
I am Jacinta and I am the Principal at Hataitai School. I have now been teaching for over thirty years and I have had the great privilege of having the experience of teaching every level from New Entrants to Year 13 at secondary school.
I am passionate about learning. It has always been my hope and philosophy to inspire a love of lifelong learning in the children. To see children having fun and looking forward to coming to school each day is wonderful. It is always a great joy for me to experience children excited about their own learning and achievements; and then striving to improve and grow more.
As well as being an educator I am the mother of five adult children and I am also the grandmother of four little grandsons.

Fiona White
Learning Leader
Teacher in Ahi
|
Hi there, I’m Fiona! I’ve been teaching for a long time (more years than I care to admit!) and I have the dubious title of being the longest serving staff member at Hataitai School-I’ve been here 11 years. I love working with our wonderful students, and am especially keen on literacy, thinking strategies and the arts. In my “other life,” I’m addicted to running (despite having dodgy knees) swing dancing and going to the gym. I also love reading, making jewellery and doing other arty crafty things. I am looking forward to an exciting year and I wish you all well for 2011.

Lisa Robson
Acting
Learning Leader
Team Leader
Year 6-8
Teacher in Ahi
|
Hi, I’m Lisa and I'm from Ballyclare in N.Ireland. I moved to Wellington in 2009 after living in England for 12 years. I really enjoyed being part of Ahi last year and I am looking forward to being the leader in Ahi this year, and working with Fiona and Urs. My favourite subjects at school are Literacy, Maths and Inquiry. Out of school I enjoy tramping, reading and mountain biking.
I am a very keen learner myself, I believe that life really is a learning journey for us all and I hope that I enrich and empower this part of the learning journey for the students in Ahi. |

I’m Claire and I come from Devon in England and moved to Wellington 7 years ago. I had so much fun being part of the Year One team last year and am really looking forward to team teaching again this year. My favourite subjects in school are maths and P.E. but I really enjoy teaching all areas of the curriculum. Other interests are being involved in church and swimming. I am the teacher responsible for Papatuanuku (the Junior Team) and E-Learning within the school and am part of the school leadership team. I really enjoy being part of children's learning and watching as they absorb new knowledge and skills.

Teresa Maguire
Team Leader
Year 2-3
Teacher in Rimutaka
(Year 2-3)

This is my fourth year working at Hataitai School in the junior area. I live in Hataitai and my son, David, is in Year 5 here at Hataitai School. Prior to teaching here I worked in educational research for several years. Before that I taught at Discovery School in Whitby (Years 5-8) and Lyall Bay School (Years 4-6). Outside of school I enjoy badminton, knitting, movies, running and spending time with my family. I’m looking forward to working with the Year 3s again and getting to know the Year 2s. I’m also looking forward to working with Mel and Megan again and welcoming Michelle to our team.

Leanne Whitfield
Team Leader
Year 4-5
Teacher in Nga Roto
(part of Nga Wai)
|
G’day! My name is Leanne and I am now in my second year at Hataitai School. This year I have the privilege of leading the Year 4/5 team, which goes by the name of Nga Wai (The Water). I began my teaching career in Tasmania 20 years ago this year, and I have also taught in the Australian states of Victoria and South Australia. I came to NZ with my Kiwi husband and family of three daughters ten years ago, and spent some years teaching over in Miramar before coming to Hataitai. I am very fortunate to be part of the teaching profession, as it’s such a joy to share the journey of learning with my students.
