Helen Langston
Teacher in Whakaari

(Year 0-1)

Hi! I’m Helen and I come from England. From a little village in Northumberland called Thropton. I moved to Wellington about 5½ years ago after falling in love with the place and the people during my big O.E about 9 years ago. I joined Hataitai School in 2009.  I am really excited about teaching alongside Claire & Sarah once again, following a fun filled 2010.  I had a fantastic summer spent with family and friends, mostly enjoying my new house on the Kapiti Coast. My favourite subjects in school are art and literacy and outside of school I enjoy dance, music, art and a bit of baking!

Kia Ora! I am a New Zealander coming from a dairy farm in South Wairarapa.  I have been at Hataitai since Term 3 last year teaching New Entrants.  I recently returned to NZ from having had exciting adventures in London and Budapest with my Scottish husband.  We love living in Wellington with our naughty cat Alley.  I’m very excited that we have tomatoes growing in our garden and I can’t wait to have spaghetti and fresh tomato sauce!  This year I want to learn to sew button holes and zips, and in a straight line.  During the summer I spent lots of time swimming and tramping with my family.  I love teaching in lower primary and seeing children get excited about learning and coming to school!

Hello!  I am Claire J and I come from sunny Dunedin.  I am enjoying Wellington and cannot wait to explore it.  I am so excited to start my teaching career at Hataitai School.  I love being outdoors and would like to learn how to change a tyre! I love teaching and believe learning should be fun!

 Megan Hinge
Teacher in Orongorongo
(Year 2-3)

I’m excited to start my 6th year at Hataitai School, back again in the lovely Orongorongo room.  As well as being a classroom teacher I am also the school health and safety officer and the facilitator for environmental and sustainable education.  I live in Strathmore and this year I have a goal of walking to school at least once a week rain or shine.  Outside of school I run a weekly Brownie Unit in Wadestown with 26 girls, learn salsa, do a fair bit of cooking and gardening and am learning to play the guitar.

Mel Beckett
Teacher in Tararua

(Year 2-3)

Kia ora, I’m Mel.  This is my second year teaching in Te Pae Maunga, before that I was teaching the big kids in Koru.  I have had a fantastic summer holiday and am now looking forward to getting back to school and seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones.  2011, I have decided, shall be the year of the hobby.  On my list for 2011 is sailing, pottery, flax weaving and swing dancing, lucky I like to stay busy aye.

Kia ora te whanau, My name is Michelle and I am coming into my 3rd year at Hataitai School. I started as a reliever, mainly with the junior school, then with Mr T and the Year 4’s in Nga Awa, and now I am starting an exciting year with the year 2/3’s in Rimutaka. Hi!

 Hannah Fraser

Teacher in Te Moana
(Year 4-5)

Hello everyone. I am Hannah, and I will be the home teacher for Te Moana. I am very excited to be working with the year 4 and 5 students and teachers. This is my second year of teaching at Hataitai School and I know many of you already from seeing you around the school or from teaching your older brothers or sisters last year.  In the holidays I went to Wales to see all of my friends I met when I lived there for 5 years. There was a lot of snow and it was very cold. I have enjoyed coming back to summer as swimming in the sea is my favourite thing to do. I am looking forward to meeting the students and their families in the coming weeks.
